Our take
Farming Simulator: Signature Edition on Switch 2 has its appeal, but the $59.99 price tag feels inflated given its mixed execution. While it offers a solid simulation experience, the gameplay can become repetitive. If you’re a die-hard fan of farming sims, it might scratch that itch, but casual players may want to wait for a sale.
The visuals on Switch 2 are decent, sticking to a simplistic art style that keeps things functional. Controls are responsive, especially in handheld mode, but they can feel clunky when managing multiple vehicles at once. The game runs at 720p, which is fine, but the performance issues - especially during heavy farming moments - might frustrate players. Compared to alternatives like Stardew Valley, which offers a rich blend of farming and RPG elements, Farming Simulator can feel one-dimensional. The detailed management systems are a plus, but they can't completely mask the game's repetitive nature. Expect to spend hours on tasks that lack variety, which may not appeal to everyone.
Pros
- Large open-world environments that enhance exploration and immersion
- Over 100 farming vehicles, adding variety to gameplay
- Detailed management systems for crops and animals, making it feel authentic
Cons
- Performance dips in busy scenes, with noticeable frame rate drops
- Repetitive tasks can lead to boredom, especially in long sessions
- No online multiplayer or co-op features, limiting social play
You’ll spend your time managing crops, raising animals, and optimizing your farm's efficiency. The career mode offers missions that guide your progress, but the core loop often has you repeating similar tasks. Vehicle operation feels satisfying, particularly with the detailed controls for each machine. However, the lack of variation in objectives can make the experience feel stale.
On Switch 2
On Switch 2, the game runs adequately but struggles during peak action, leading to occasional frame drops. Handheld mode is surprisingly comfortable, but docked play reveals some rough spots in performance. The new hardware does help with loading times, keeping you in the farming rhythm, but the experience is marred by the aforementioned issues.
Who it's for
This is for players who crave a detailed farming simulator and don’t mind grinding through repetitive tasks. Those seeking a more dynamic experience or multiplayer options might want to look elsewhere.
